Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra & the Walt Disney Concert Hall, DTLA

November 21, 2019

It gives me immense pleasure to share with you all that currently, I am working with LA-based choreographer Kitty McNamee on a project for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra’s production of Stravinsky’s ‘Rite of Spring’. I will be choreographing and performing in Kuchipudi dance style. This show will be staged with the world class Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the prestigious Walt Disney Concert Hall on December 7th and 14th 2019 as part of their Toyota Symphonies for Youth program.

About Rite of Spring :

Stravinsky’s revolutionary vision of primitive Russia caused a riot in its Paris premiere and changed music forever with its emphasis on the pulse-pounding power of rhythm. Dancers will help illuminate this extraordinary composition.

About the Choreography:

Kitty Mcnamee using the language of modern contemporary and hip hop choreography and as Artistic Director has shaped the piece while Bhavana Reddy will be starring as the lead performer to bring the colour and vibrancy of Kuchipudi Indian Classical Dance choreography into the symphony. Bhavana will play the wise woman of the tribe who enlightens the villagers about the wonders of the earth, its five elements (bhoomi earth, apah fire, nalo water, nilo wind and nabha sky). She teaches the children to respect their elders and honor nature. Using mime, melodic gestures and complex rhythmic patterns she will embody the elements and tell a story through the language of Kuchipudi. Bhavana will be accompanied by modern dancers Sasha Rivera, Angelica DeWitt, Derek Scheisel, Justin Porter, William Mayo and Russel Ridgeway

Korzo Theatre Netherlands features Bhavana Reddy in their Online India Dans Festival

These last two weeks I was meant to be in Netherlands meeting all the wonderful people associated with Korzo India Dans Festival
~ New for the India Dance Festival: Storytelling & dance by Bhavana Reddy with live Q&A ~

Kuchipudi exponent Bhavana Reddy tells & performs "Bhama Kalapam", a dance drama inspired on Hindu literature. It's a classic that every Kuchipudi dancer must have danced at least once. Central heroine is Satyabhama, one of Krishna’s consorts, who struggles with the fact that he has several wives. She wants him exclusively for herself and is unapologetically outspoken about this. Bhavana tells us this story and illustrates this with excerpts of her dance production.
